حملت الرّواية مجموعة من الاستفهامات الّتي تصارعت في ذهن الرّوائيّ بهدف البحث عن الهويّة والوجود، وعن أسباب التّيه أمام عالم بمتغيّراته. فحاولنا دراستها من خلال نظريّة أفعال الكلام، وأهمّ تقسيماتها. حيث انصبّ اهتمامنا في هذا البحث على المعنى التّداوليّ للاستفهام في رواية ضباب آخر النّهار الّتي تعدّ خطابا تواصليّا يعتمد على تداول الكلام، إلى جانب تقصّي المقاصد التّداوليّة للاستفهام فيها، كما سعينا إلى النّظر إليه -الاستفهام -كفعل كلاميّ توجيهيّ في شكله الإنجازيّ وفق تصنيف سيرل (Seale). وتوصّلنا إلى نتيجة مفادها أنّه لابدّ من تجاوز الاستفهام بأدواته المختلفة إلى البحث عن إنجازيّته، وعن مختلف القوى التّأثيريّة النّاتجة عنه. كما يعدّ هذا الفعل الكلاميّ من أكثر الأفعال الكلاميّة ورودا وهيمنة في الرّواية، إضافة إلى تشاركه مع باقي الأفعال، حيث أظهر ذلك المنحى التّداوليّ لمضمون الرّواية (الفهم التّداوليّ) من خلال تحقيق تغييرات من معنى إلى آخر في إطار سياقيّ لصناعة مواقف اجتماعيّة مختلفة، إذ احتمل الاستفهام أن يكون تعجّبا، عتابا،...إلخ إنّ انتظام هذه الأفعال شكّل متواليات من الأفعال، هي أفعال صغرى خاضعة لطبيعة الخطاب (الرّواية) الّتي تفرض هذا النّوع من الأفعال، والّتي اعتمد عليها المتكلّمون للإجابة عن مجموعة من التّساؤلات.
The study came to search for the pragmatics meaning of the interrogation in the novel” the Fog of the end of the Day” as a communicative discourse based on the circulation of speech, in addition to the exploration of the pragmatics functions to inquire about it, we have also sought to view interrogation as a directive speech act  in its illocutionary form. And we came to the conclusion that it is necessary to go beyond the interrogation with its various tools to search for its achievement, and the various influential forces resulting from it. This speech act  is also one of the most frequent and dominant speech acts in the novel, as well as its sharing with rest of the acts, as it showed the pragmatics trend of the content of the novel( pragmatics understanding) by achieving to another within a contextual framework to create different social situations, to be exclaimed, reproached…etc. The regularity of these acts in the form of sequences of acts, they are micro acts subject to the nature of the discourse( novel) that imposes this type of acts, on  which the speakers relied on a group of questions in order to search for identity and existence, and about the causes of wandering in front of world with its variables.
