لم يكد القرن العشرين ليطل على الجزائر ببضع سنين حتى بدأت الأذهان تتفتح إلى ما يدور حولها من أحداث وتطورات خارجية، وراحت الطبقة المثقفة الجزائرية تبحث عن غذاء جديد في الفكر التحرري الوافد من بعض الأقطار العربية وحتى الأوروبية والذي يدعو إلى اليقظة والنضال والتأسيس للإعلام المستقل لأهميته الكبيرة في توعية الرأي العام والتعبير عن مختلف المطالب والحقوق، وبذلك ظهرت العديد من الصحف والمجلات التي اهتمت بمختلف الشؤون الوطنية ومن ضمنها قضايا الهوية، هذه الأخيرة التي أخذت أهمية كبيرة بالوسط الصحفي الجزائري نتيجة السياسة العدائية المكثفة لمقومات وثوابت الشعب الجزائري من قبل سلطات الاحتلال الفرنسي، ومن خلال هذا المقال سنحاول تسليط الضوء أكثر على الدور الفعلي للصحافة الوطنية في الساحة الفكرية والثقافية ومواقفها المختلفة من قضايا الهوية الوطنية خلال النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، مع التركيز على صحافة التيار الإصلاحي كونه أكثر التيارات اهتماما ودفاعا عن قضايا الهوية الوطنية خلال ذات الفترة
