كتب هوركهايمر سنة 1970 نصّا مثيرا اعتبر نقدا للنقد أو مراجعة لنظريّته النّقديّة التقليدية، أريد منه فتح أفق التّفكير على أبعاد ديناميكيّة تميّز الممارسة العمليّة للبشر. فكان انفتاحه على البعد الروحي والعقائدي بمثابة المنعطف الجليل داخل فكره النقدي الذي أدرك أنّ العقل يشكو أزمة لا حلّ لها إلاّ بإحياء روحيّة الإنسان. وما أشبه هذه اللّحظة بمثيلتها في عصر ابن عربي، الذي أعلن عن مواجهة مفتوحة مع رموز العقلانيّة الصارمة التي يمثلّها علماء الرّسوم أنداك. وقد لاحظنا الكثير من نقاط التّشابه بينهما، تتعلّق ببنى النّقد ورهاناته، وجعل التّصوّف ملاذا.

شكلت موريطانيا السطايفية حقبة تاريخية هامة من حقب تاريخ المغرب القديم الروماني فمنذ أن أنشئت في النصف الثاني من القرن الثالث ميلادي على يد الإمبراطور"ديوقلديانوس" (284ــ305م)، وهي تلعب دورها الحضاري بامتياز سياسيا وعسكريا وبالأخص اقتصاديا. كما أن تاريخ هذه المقاطعة حافل بالمقاومات والثورات ضد الاحتلال الروماني (خاصة بين القرنين الثالث والرابع ميلادي)، تزعمتها في كثير من الأحيان القبائل المحلية لعل أهمها قبائل البوار والحلف الخماسي،فكانت أراضي المقاطعة السطايفية مسرحا لهذه الثورات والتي أثرت أكيد على الوجود الروماني بالمنطقة. ولعل أهم الدوافع التي جعلتنا نهتم بدراسة قبائل موريطانيا السطايفية هو الرغبة في تسليط الضوء على تلك القبائل التي وطنت هذه المنطقة ذات الموقع الإستراتيجي المهم، مشكلة مجتمع محلي بتكوينها لتكتلات وكنفدراليات قبلية،وذلك من خلال تتبع الشذرات المتفرقة والمختلفة من المعلومات عنها التي نقلتها لنا في الغالب النقوش الأثرية والنصوص الأدبية،ولا تزال الكثير من الحقائق حول هذه القبائل مجهولة أو غامضة.

Perhaps the most important motive behind our desire to study the tribes of (stayfya) Mauritania is to shed light on the tribes that inhabited this important, strategically positioned region, the problem of a local society by creating clusters and tribal confederations, through following the scattered shards that differ when it comes to the information relayed to us in ancient scribes and literary texts, and there are many facts that are still unknown and mysterious.
